NSW: Shires call for more flood relief to fix roads
The New South Wales Shires Association has called on the state Treasury to commit more
money to repairing roads in flood affected areas of the state.
Association president CHRIS VARDON says the shires won't accept money being taken from
existing Roads and Traffic Authority allocations.
He says more money has to be offered by the Treasury.
When NSW Premier BOB CARR first visited flood affected areas he estimated the damage
bill would be $60 million.
However, this figure has since been revised to $200 million.
Mr VARDON says he believes $15 million of the $20 million RTA budget for disaster relief
this financial year has already been allocated to natural disasters from previous years.
