NSW: ICAC to investigate tow truck corruption claims

SYDNEY, Aug 21 AAP - Allegations of corruption in the NSW tow truck industry - includingthe alleged use of Comanchero bikies as standover men - will be handed to the IndependentCommission Against Corruption.

Transport Minister Carl Scully said he had been informed by the director-general ofthe Department of Transport of allegations that members of the Tow Truck Advisory Councilmay have misused information that came to their attention on that council to win privatetowing work.

"I am very, very disappointed to hear those allegations, these are serious allegationsand need to be investigated by ICAC," he told reporters in Sydney.

"Of probably even more serious concern is an allegation that was passed on to me bythe director-general that one of the members of the Tow Truck Advisory Council may haveused a member or members of the Comanchero bikie gang to assist in the protection of thatperson's business interests."

Mr Scully said he had asked the director-general to make a reference to ICAC to havethe allegations examined.
