Fed: ACT Chief declares opposition to war
ACT Chief Minister JON STANHOPE says Australians have no choice but to accept responsibilityfor the death of Iraqis killed by coalition forces.
Mr STANHOPE says because Australia is part of the invading forces which have killedIraqis, the people of Australia must accept collective responsibility for the actionswhich led to the deaths.
In a ministerial statement to the ACT Legislative Assembly, the chief minister saysthe war is legally and morally wrong.
His speech follows the passing last month of a motion calling on the federal governmentto oppose the war in Iraq and immediately withdraw Australian troops.
